Chambliss Podcast

There's a podcast of a press conference on Chanbliss' Senate website. His current position is to stay the course. He's waiting to hear from Gates and the President before taking a position on escalation. On podcast, he expresses a desire for deeper Iraqi involvement in providing external and internal security.

We've got to be realistic. Our folks are in theatre to do a job. And that j0b is to take care of as many bad guys they have to to make sure that the iraqis are in a position from a military perspective to protect themselves from any outside and external threats. And the security police can protect themselves from an internal security standpoint. If we can do that by 2008 or 2007 or whatever the time frame may, that is what we all want to do.

He explicitly rejects setting any date certain. I wonder how his constituents feel about his commitment to an indefinite American military presence in Iraq.

I don't think we should ever set a date on when we're gonna say that we're gonna turn it over to them. We should turn it over to them when they are ready to take it.

He, at least for public consumption, shares the Bush delusion:

I think we're winning the war.
