Collins in her own words

From Susan Collins' Senate website:

My conclusion is that it would be a mistake to send more troops to Baghdad. Prime Minister Maliki did not welcome the prospect of more American troops and indeed seemed frustrated that he did not have more control over his own troops. One American general told me that a jobs program in Baghdad would do more good than additional troops. And it seems to me that the Iraqis themselves need to step up to deal with the sectarian violence plaguing the Baghdad region. Ultimately, resolving the sectarian violence requires a political, not a military, solution in which the Sunni minority is more fully integrated into the government.

This is, of course, a start. The first step toward withdrawal is ending the delusion that Iraq's civil war will be resolved by escalating US military intervention. The next step is recognizing the current US military intervention is not going to resolve the civil war in Iraq. The faster that Collins can disassociate herself from the Republican war in Iraq, the less likely it is that she will lose her seat.

Senator Collins--consider Lincoln Chafee's fate. Even very popular Senators are at risk over this failed, bloody and pointless war.
